The brief

To construct a contemporary holiday let which can sleep either a combination of two people or up to six people due to an innovative interlocking system which allows for the lets to be rented as two individual occupancies or as a single larger entity.

The outcome

The client, Walker Residential, obtained planning permission for holiday-let cottages with private gardens set in the beautiful countryside around the village of Milstead just outside Sittingbourne. Architects designed a contemporary holiday let which can sleep either a combination of two people or up to six people due to an innovative interlocking system which allows for the lets to be rented as two individual occupancies or as a single larger entity. This was something that was new to Meridian but we were confident with our strong supply chain and years of industry knowledge, this would prove no problem at all.

There were some special requirements for this development – the property was to be clad with uncoloured natural timber to reflect the local environment and the client was key for this to be interspersed with long panels of glazing to allow occupiers to enjoy the stunning views.

The challenge on this was to incorporate an old concrete frame from a dated tractor shed. There were also special requirements to work within the constraints of a framework for the client to receive an EU Farmers grant, and we received fantastic feedback, with it being stated that this was the only project to receive this grant to be delivered on program and on budget.
