Working closely with heritage and conservation officers throughout to ensure the aesthetics were to standards, as well as researching and getting sign off on approved materials meant that there was a lot of forward planning, as this added another step to the procurement process which could in turn slow the project down. Another added pressure was the fact that there is a railway line in close proximity – this was not something we had encountered before, so we worked closely with Network Rail to ensure we were following safe working practices, as well as on boarding additional health and safety for the project specifically.
The brief
Refurbish the existing listed property and construct two new dwellings on the site in keeping with the listed property.
The outcome
Working closely with heritage and conservation officers throughout to ensure the aesthetics were to standards, as well as researching and getting sign off on approved materials meant that there was a lot of forward planning, as this added another step to the procurement process which could in turn slow the project down. Another added pressure was the fact that there is a railway line in close proximity – this was not something we had encountered before, so we worked closely with Network Rail to ensure we were following safe working practices, as well as on boarding additional health and safety for the project specifically. Despite these tricky scenarios, it was another project delivered ahead of time and within the budget, with significant education on our part on the requirements around these sort of builds.
